Tourist trip program
«Yasnaya Polyana: Journey to the World of Leo Tolstoy»
This is not just a trip to the museum, but an immersion in the place where “War and Peace” and |”Anna Karenina” were written. The program is based on the contrast between the aristocratic lifestyle and Tolstoy's desire for a simple, almost peasant life.
- Upon entering the estate, visitors are greeted by the Entrance Towers and the Birch Alley ("Preshpekt").
Tourists will walk from the white entrance towers along the famous alley, described by Tolstoy in his novels.
- After this, the guests move to the writer’s memorial house, where time stands still since 1910.
Pay attention to the personal library (22,000 books in 35 languages), the modest sofa on which almost all members of the Tolstoy family were born and the study where the greatest novels of mankind were created.
- The tourists will continue their way deep into the "Stary Zakaz" forest towards the great man's most modest burial site. There they will hear the legend of the "Green Stick," supposedly hidden here and holding the secret of universal happiness. Guests are always struck by the absence of a monument or a cross (in accordance with Tolstoy's will). There is only a green mound in the silence of the forest. A moment for reflection.
- Then you’ll visit the Volkonsky House (the estate's oldest building), the stables, the apple orchards, as well as the estate's farmsteads. Tolstoy was not only a writer but also an active farmer.
Animal lovers can book a short horse-drawn carriage ride around the grounds and feel like in a 19th-century novel.
- Afterwards, guests will visit the "Noble Estate" restaurant, where they will try dishes cooked on recipes by Sofia Andreevna Tolstaya, including the famous "Ankovskiy Pie" – a legendary lemon pie , symbol of prosperity in the Tolstoy family.
After a delicious lunch, the tourists will visit the restored Kozlova Zaseka railway station, which looks exactly as it did during the writer's lifetime.
This is where mail from all over the world arrived, and it was from here that Tolstoy left home forever on his final journey in 1910. There is a small but very atmospheric museum of antique suitcases and travel accessories.
This program gives guests an emotional experience—an understanding of why Tolstoy became who he became.
